The first trip to a dentist is a huge milestone; our top priority is to ensure it’s a positive experience. We recognize there may be some nerves from both you and your child, so we recommend a little preparation ahead of your visit.

It’s important to avoid communicating any fears or preconceived notions you may have to your little ones. We also suggest avoiding certain words that could cause unnecessary fear, as we use non-threatening language termed “Happy Words” to explain our equipment and procedures. You can trust that our friendly doctor and staff will thoroughly explain and address your child's questions.

CARING FOR YOUR CHILD’S SMILE

    AGES 0-2

    While most newborns are toothless, we recommend gently wiping your baby's gums after feeding to avoid harmful bacteria.

    The teething period can begin at 6 months old and continue until your baby is 3 years old. To keep your child's teeth healthy, we recommend using a rice-grain size of fluoridated toothpaste when brushing their teeth or hydroxyapatite toothpaste. Establishing regular feeding times can also help prevent cavities

    AGES 3-6

    Now your little one should be brushing their teeth twice a day - once in the morning and again before bedtime. We recommend upgrading to a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste until 9 years old. If you choose not to use fluoride, we recommend to consider hydroxyapatite toothpaste. Since their teeth are growing closer together, flossing is essential.

    While you should let your child brush their teeth on their own, always double-check their teeth yourself to ensure they are cleaned thoroughly until 9 years old. You can also encourage them to spit after brushing and not rinsing out all of their toothpaste’s powers.

    AGES 7-10

    You’re now going to see the permanent teeth begin to emerge! Your child’s adult smile is just starting to form, so it is important to emphasize brushing around their gumlines to prevent gum disease.

    Around this time, some children may require extra help through interceptive orthodontics. They are growing like wildfire at this age, so ensure their teeth are properly coming into their own.

    AGES 11-14

    Welcome to the pre-teen years! Your child is more wildly independent for their own oral health, diet, and nutrition. During their regular cleaning appointments, we will provide education on how their decisions can affect their dental and overall health.

    Orthodontic evaluations are also conducted at this age, and referrals are made if necessary. We are experienced in visualizing their smiles before they are fully formed.

    AGES 15+

    You now have a young adult on your hands. During this time of their life, their permanent smile is almost-if not already complete.

    During this time of their life, it is crucial that we evaluate if wisdom teeth removal is necessary. A panoramic x-ray is required for a proper diagnosis to determine the positioning of the teeth and the appropriate timing for their removal.
